Marvin + Indy’s Wedding

It was late October and daylight savings was coming to an end. For a wedding photographer that means a shorter window for light in the evenings. On the bright side, the number of weddings seem to peak in the fall and winter months. Summers can be very harsh in The Bahamas, so it seems like that slight drop in temperature just makes people want to say “I do!”

I started my day with my usual cup of coffee to get my energy up for the day ahead. Shortly after, I was on my way. It was a quick drive to the bridal prep location, a cozy air bnb in the eastern part of Nassau, Bahamas.

Wedding Prep

Usually, the first thing I try to do when I get to the prep location is find where the best light is. This greatly influences where I want to take the majority of the photographs, from individuals to dress shots. Indy’s dress was a gorgeous, embellished gown that had some serious weight to it. Then I gather all the precious accessories and trinkets including the rings to create the perfect flatlay. Lastly, I move to capturing the getting ready process and any other impromptu moments.

Despite it being overcast and the location not providing great natural light, I was able to get some awesome shots and my second photographer was at Marvin’s location documenting his getting ready process.

After prep was done, we were off to the western part of New Providence to Sapodilla Restaurant for the ceremony and reception. The décor design was actually the brainchild of the bride herself, owner of Couture Designs.

The Ceremony and Reception

The sky was sending us threats throughout the outdoor ceremony, but luckily the rain held up. Marvin has a stern demeanor, but you can see him in his most relaxed state with Indy, he didn’t take his eyes off of her the entire time. Vows were exchanged and they were now Mr. and Mrs.!

It was a quick transition to the reception area. In my experience, it seems to be a less stressful process when the ceremony and reception are held at the same property. A night of laughter and dancing took place. The energy in the room was euphoric! What an end to a spectacular day!

As a documentary style wedding  photographer, I focus on capturing moments and raw emotions and less on posing. Take a look at some of my favorite moments from Marvin and Indy’s wedding.

“J Michael Imagery was absolutely amazing! I watched his work for a while and I knew that he was perfect to shoot our wedding. He was sensitive to our needs and he didn’t get upset when we got tired. I would recommend him a thousand times over! When we got the images they were exactly what we wanted. The candid shots were perfect. We are in love with our wedding photos.” – Indy & Marvin
